According to The Sun, Neat Burger — the vegan restaurant chain backed by Lewis Hamilton and Leonardo DiCaprio — has closed all its outlets after experiencing significant losses.

The plant-based food business recorded losses of £7.9 million in 2022 — up £3.2 million from the previous year. The company subsequently closed several branches in London and New York, leaving only two outlets in the UK, which have now also been shuttered.

“We have no further comment at this time, other than to confirm that the business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants,” said a Neat Burger spokesperson.

The closure impacts approximately 150 employees, who now face job losses. Hamilton, who has followed a vegan diet since 2017, previously had a vision to provide healthy food options on British streets.

“I believe we need a healthier high street option that tastes amazing and offers something exciting to those who want to be meat-free every now and again,” Hamilton said during the burger chain’s launch in 2019.

Despite its celebrity backing and mission-driven branding, Neat Burger struggled to sustain operations in a competitive market. The company’s closure marks a significant setback for the plant-based fast food movement in the UK and abroad.
