Leong Jun Hao Named Malaysia Captain for 2025 Sudirman Cup, Pearly Tan Appointed Deputy

A surprising decision has emerged from the Malaysian badminton team ahead of their participation in the 2025 Sudirman Cup — Leong Jun Hao has been appointed team captain, with Pearly Tan named as vice-captain.

The selection of Leong Jun Hao, a young men’s singles player, has raised eyebrows considering the presence of seasoned players such as men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, both part of the national training squad under BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia). Notably, Soh Wooi Yik had previously held the captaincy role during the Thomas Cup.

The mixed team tournament will be held in Xiamen, China, from April 27 to May 4, 2025. This year’s Sudirman Cup will serve as a defining moment for Leong Jun Hao’s leadership as he guides Malaysia’s squad in their pursuit of success.
