Lee Zii Jia Reveals Comeback Plans after Requesting BWF Ranking Protection

Lee Zii Jia has disclosed his comeback strategy after filing a BWF ranking protection request, as reported by Bolasport.com. His move comes nearly in tandem with fellow shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

The current men’s singles scene is facing a wave of injury-related absences, with Lee Zii Jia, Anthony Ginting, and Viktor Axelsen all temporarily withdrawing from the BWF World Tour for at least two months.

BWF’s ranking protection rule explained

Under BWF rules, a player requesting ranking protection must refrain from all competitive play for a minimum of three months. While there’s been little update on Ginting, both Lee and Axelsen have already outlined their return schedules.

Axelsen targets World Championships, Lee opts for longer rest

Viktor Axelsen has confirmed his participation in the upcoming 2025 BWF World Championships in France this August.

Meanwhile, Lee Zii Jia, who was previously speculated to make his comeback at the 2025 US Open in June, has decided to extend his recovery period for a more complete return to peak form.
