Laurent Mekies officially appointed as new Red Bull Racing F1 CEO

Laurent Mekies has been officially appointed as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing Formula 1 — replacing Christian Horner who was dismissed from his position last Wednesday.

The 48-year-old Frenchman brings extensive F1 experience — ranging from technical roles at Arrows and Minardi to sporting director at Ferrari and team principal at Racing Bulls.

Mekies’ main challenge is convincing Max Verstappen about the team’s future — as Red Bull has only managed two race wins in 2025 and trails behind McLaren.

The relationship with Yuki Tsunoda is also a key priority — given their good chemistry when working together previously at Racing Bulls.

“Every team structure is different. At Red Bull Racing, I have a clear structure that reports into me,” Horner stated in his final remarks last week.

Mekies faces the tough task of maintaining the team culture built by Horner — while making necessary changes to return Red Bull to peak performance.

This appointment comes before the summer break — giving Mekies time to adapt before the mandatory shutdown in August.
