Lauren James returns to field as England crushes Jamaica

Sarina Wiegman expressed her satisfaction with Lauren James‘s return to the field — the player who featured for 30 minutes in England’s commanding 7-0 victory over Jamaica in Leicester.

James, absent since April due to a hamstring injury, made an immediate impact by providing an assist for Alessia Russo‘s goal in the 71st minute.

“We’re still building her. She worked so hard to be where she is now — first at Chelsea, then the last two weeks in training camps,” explained Wiegman.

England dominated with six different players getting on the scoresheet:

  • Ella Toone (2 goals)
  • Lucy Bronze
  • Georgia Stanway
  • Alessia Russo
  • Aggie Beevor-Jones
  • Beth Mead

Georgia Stanway, recovered from a knee ligament injury, managed to play the full 90 minutes — a positive development ahead of next week’s European Championship opener against France.

“We know next week we have to take our game to the next level,” added Wiegman who still sees room for improvement despite her team’s substantial victory.
