Lauren Hemp Comments on Historic Women’s Football Transfer Record

Lauren Hemp has responded positively to the potential first £1 million world-record transfer in women’s football history — a bid made by Arsenal for Liverpool player Olivia Smith.

According to ESPN sources, the transfer value will exceed the previous record held by Naomi Girma when she joined Chelsea. “This is the direction women’s football is heading and it’s great to see,” Hemp stated.

“We’re in a tournament bubble right now, so we’re not following it too closely. But this proves that women footballers are great and that’s the direction the sport is taking.”

Hemp’s main focus is now on the match against Wales in Euro 2025. England bounced back from a 2-1 defeat against France with a commanding 4-0 victory over Netherlands.

  • England needs a win to advance to knockout stages
  • Wales making their major tournament debut
  • Both teams familiar with each other from Women’s Super League

“We won’t underestimate Wales. They deserve to be here and have many great players I face in the WSL,” added Hemp, who emphasized her team will deliver their best performance in the match.
