Lanny/Fadia Set to Face Top Seeds Today in Japan Open 2025 Quarterfinals

TOKYO – Indonesian women’s doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti are set for a major challenge today, Friday (July 18), as they face top-seeded Chinese duo Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Tour Super 750 Japan Open 2025.

“We’ll be up against the top seeds, but we won’t give up before the fight. We’re going to play with a nothing-to-lose mindset,” said Fadia, quoted in an official PBSI statement from Tokyo.

Lanny/Fadia booked their quarterfinal ticket after a solid straight-game win yesterday over Japan’s Mizuki Otake/Miyu Takahashi, with a score of 21-17, 21-14.

“At first, we were too defensive and lost points under pressure. But once we switched to a more attacking style, the match turned in our favor,” Lanny explained.

Currently ranked 20th in the world, the Indonesian duo showed composure and consistency throughout the match. After leading 11-9 at the first game interval, they dominated play and forced errors from the Japanese 37th-ranked pair.

In the second game, Otake/Takahashi pushed back early, but Lanny/Fadia maintained focus and sealed the victory 21-14.

“The Japanese pair had strong power shots, so we had to be smart and mix in more counterattacks,” added Fadia.

Their opponents today, Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning, advanced after defeating home pair Kokona Ishikawa/Maiko Kawazoe 21-14, 21-17.

This quarterfinal marks a critical moment for Lanny/Fadia, especially as they are Indonesia’s sole remaining representatives in the women’s doubles draw. Earlier, fellow Indonesians Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Korean pair Kim Hye Jeong/Kong Hee Yong (22-20, 19-21, 11-21).

A victory today would be a breakthrough for Lanny/Fadia and a significant step toward strengthening Indonesia’s position in the tournament. All eyes will be on the court as they aim to upset the tournament favorites.
