Lance Stroll Returns to F1 for Canadian GP after Hand Surgery

According to Aston Martin’s announcement, Lance Stroll will return to the AMR25 cockpit for the Canadian Grand Prix — his home race in Montreal this weekend — following a successful medical procedure for his hand injury.

The Canadian driver withdrew from the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago due to worsening pain in his right hand — an injury stemming from a cycling accident in 2023. After undergoing surgery and completing testing with an older generation F1 car at France’s Paul Ricard circuit, Stroll has been declared fit to race.

“I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend. I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd. I’m feeling good after my procedure and put some laps in at Paul Ricard this week to prepare,” said Stroll.

Aston Martin’s head of trackside engineering, Mike Krack, dismissed rumors that Stroll’s withdrawal from the Spanish GP was related to frustration after a disappointing qualifying session — calling it merely “paddock gossip.”

With Stroll’s return confirmed, reserve driver Felipe Drugovich can now proceed with his plans to compete with Cadillac at this weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours.
