Lamine Yamal officially receives Barcelona’s legendary number 10

Lamine Yamal — Barcelona’s young talent who just celebrated his 18th birthday — officially receives the legendary number 10 jersey previously worn by Lionel Messi.

The announcement was made at a special event with Yamal’s family — coinciding with the celebration of his new contract running until 2031. The number 10 was inherited following Ansu Fati’s departure on loan to AS Monaco earlier this month.

Barcelona’s number 10 history is filled with great names — including Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Romário and Diego Maradona. Messi himself wore the number from 2008 to 2021, winning 10 LaLiga titles and four Champions League trophies.

Yamal has recorded 106 appearances and 25 goals for Barcelona. Previously, he wore several different numbers:

• Number 41 during his debut season 2022-23
• Number 27 the following season
• Number 19 last season

The young player has also succeeded with the Spanish national team — being part of the squad that won the European Championship last summer.
