LA protests raise concerns ahead of 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup opening

According to Concacaf, the governing body for North and Central American and Caribbean football is maintaining close communication with local authorities regarding ongoing protests in Los Angeles.

The 2025 Gold Cup opening match between Mexico National Team and the Dominican Republic is scheduled at SoFi Stadium — however, tensions remain high in several city areas following a series of immigration raids that triggered major demonstrations.

The Mexico National Team has taken precautionary measures by relocating their accommodation from downtown Los Angeles to Long Beach. This decision follows clashes between ICE officers and protesters in the area.

“The safety and well-being of all participants, fans, and stakeholders is the Confederation’s highest priority,” states Concacaf’s official announcement.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that they will ensure security for all fans attending the matches. Los Angeles will also host expanded FIFA Club World Cup matches, with Paris Saint-Germain facing Atlético Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
