Kylian Mbappe hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis

According to Real Madrid’s official statement, forward Kylian Mbappé is currently undergoing hospital treatment — he has been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis.

The French international was forced to miss the Club World Cup opener that ended in a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami. Previously, Mbappé was also unable to participate in team training sessions.

“Our player Kylian Mbappé has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment,” stated Madrid’s brief announcement.

Without Mbappé — who scored 43 goals across all competitions last season — young player Gonzalo García stepped up as the main striker and managed to score the opening goal, before Rúben Neves equalized for Al Hilal. Madrid failed to secure victory after Federico Valverde’s injury-time penalty was saved by goalkeeper Yassine Bono.
