Kyle Kirkwood claims first oval victory at IndyCar WWTR

Kyle Kirkwood achieved a significant milestone by securing his first oval track victory at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway. This win complements his previous two victories on street circuits at Long Beach and Detroit.

“This achievement means so much — the oval victory is far more significant than last week’s win,” stated Kirkwood, who continues to demonstrate his versatility across different track types.

The Andretti Global driver has successfully reduced his points gap to championship leader Alex Palou — from 150 points to 75 points. He now holds third position, just two points behind Pato O’Ward.

“A driver must be able to win on various types of circuits — whether it’s short ovals, long ovals, street courses, or permanent tracks,” added Kirkwood, who remains optimistic about the upcoming series at Road America.

While confident about racing in Wisconsin, Kirkwood acknowledges the need to improve his performance for the Mid-Ohio series — a circuit he admits has different characteristics when competing at IndyCar level compared to junior categories.
