Korean Volleyball League implements free transfer system for foreign players next season

According to KBS News, the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) announced a significant change in foreign player recruitment system — starting from 2025-2026 season clubs are allowed to conduct free transfers.

This system replaces the draft process that has been in effect for about a decade — since 2015 for women’s and 2016 for men’s sectors. The change gives clubs freedom to choose players without depending on draft order lottery.

This new policy opens the possibility of reunion between Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi and Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks — the team she left two months ago. During the last two seasons, Megawati led Red Sparks to their first playoff in seven years and first final in 13 years.

“It will be an unforgettable memory to play with Mega regardless of the final round results,” stated Red Sparks coach Ko Hee-jin.
