Patrick Kluivert Speaks Out on World Cup Qualifiers Host Controversy

According to Bolasport.com, Indonesia national team head coach, Patrick Kluivert — has responded to the growing controversy over the selection of host nations for the fourth round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Indonesia has officially secured its place in the next stage after collecting 12 points in the current qualification phase. With only one match remaining, it is now mathematically impossible for Bahrain and China — both on 6 points — to surpass Indonesia in the standings.

Next stage offers direct World Cup ticket for group winners

The fourth round, scheduled to take place in October 2025, will feature six qualified teams, divided into two groups of three. The winners of each group will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the runners-up will move on to the fifth round, where they will compete for inter-confederation playoff spots.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar reported as hosts amid fairness concerns

The controversy was sparked by reports that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has chosen Saudi Arabia and Qatar as the host nations for the fourth-round matches. The decision has raised concerns regarding neutrality, especially considering the competitive importance of the stage.

Although Kluivert has refrained from making public criticism, sources close to the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirm that internal discussions are ongoing to seek clarification from AFC on the matter. The federation is reportedly reviewing the potential impact of the decision on the integrity of the qualification process.
