Kevin De Bruyne Officially Leaves Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne is facing a difficult reality after Manchester City decided not to renew his contract, which is set to expire this summer.

The Belgian midfielder has been a pivotal figure for City for nearly a decade — contributing 108 goals and 177 assists in 418 appearances since his arrival in 2015.

“Obviously I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it. I didn’t receive any offers this year, they just made their decision,” said De Bruyne.

Despite maintaining strong performances, a hamstring injury sustained in the 2023 Champions League final limited the 33-year-old to just 17 Premier League appearances this season.

Letting go of club legends isn’t new for City — David Silva, Vincent Kompany, and Sergio Aguero also exited in similar fashion. However, De Bruyne has been more vocal in expressing his disappointment.

“Many teammates said they were sad to see me go, but sometimes that’s just life. I still believe I can perform at this level, but I understand the club has to make a decision,” he added.

De Bruyne is now being linked with a move to Major League Soccer, with Chicago Fire reportedly a top candidate after Inter Miami gave up their negotiation rights.
