Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has expressed doubts about participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States this June and July.

The 33-year-old is facing uncertainty regarding his future, with his contract at Manchester City set to expire in the coming weeks.

“I need to take care of myself — if I get injured at the Club World Cup, what would I do? No one will take care of me then,” De Bruyne said.

Having won 14 major trophies in a decade with Manchester City, the Belgian star is carefully weighing his next steps, emphasizing the importance of family — he has three children — in his decision-making process.

Although the tournament’s new expanded format allows players to sign short-term deals specifically for the event, De Bruyne remains hesitant. A potential injury could jeopardize his move to a new club.

This season has been disappointing for Manchester City, who failed to retain their Premier League title and lost the FA Cup final. Still, De Bruyne insisted his legacy with the club remains intact after a decade of consistent excellence.
