Katie Boulter Set for Another Duel with Sonay Kartal at Nottingham Open

Defending champion Katie Boulter defeated New Zealand’s Lulu Sun 6-2, 6-2 at the Nottingham Open on Tuesday (18 June) to advance to the last 16. The victory sets up a second-round clash against compatriot Sonay Kartal this Friday (20 June).

Boulter dominated the match with powerful serving, winning 84% of points (26 of 31) on her first serve and 50% (14 of 28) on her second. She also converted 80% of her break points (4 of 5), while Sun failed to capitalize on all four of her break opportunities (0 of 4). Overall, Boulter dominated with total score of 62 points to Sun’s 45.

With this win, the British female tennis star extended her winning streak at Nottingham to 11 matches. She now aims to become the first player in the tournament’s history to secure three consecutive titles.

Joining eighth seed Boulter in the second round are Kartal, Mingge Xu, and Francesca Jones. Friday’s match will mark the second Boulter vs. Kartal encounter of the season, which promises to be a heated contest following Boulter’s dramatic victory in their previous meeting.
