Kalinskaya Advances to Third DC Open Quarterfinal in Washington

Anna Kalinskaya continued her impressive track record at the Mubadala Citi DC Open with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory over No. 8 seed Magda Linette on Wednesday, securing her spot in the quarterfinals for the third time in as many appearances at the Washington-based WTA event.

The Russian’s win maintains her perfect record in Washington, where she has never failed to reach at least the quarterfinal stage. She previously made a run to the semifinals in 2019 and reached the last eight in 2022.

“I always enjoy competing here,” Kalinskaya said post-match.

“The conditions fit my game well, and the energy in D.C. helps bring out my best tennis.”

The first set was closely contested, but Kalinskaya raised her level in the key moments, breaking Linette late to take it 6-4. She then completely dominated the second set, not dropping a single game and closing out the match in just over an hour.

Kalinskaya’s aggressive return game and precise shot selection left Linette with few answers. The win also marks her second top-10 victory of the season, solidifying her reputation as a dangerous player outside the seeded ranks.

Currently ranked just outside the WTA’s top 50, Kalinskaya is making a case for a surge in the second half of the season. Her growing consistency and composure, particularly in high-pressure matches, reflect her evolution as a contender on the tour.

With a spot in the quarterfinals secured once again, Kalinskaya now aims to surpass her 2019 semifinal finish and continue her unbeaten streak in Washington.
