Kaishu Sano Returns to Japan Squad After Legal Case

Japan national team coach Hajime Moriyasu has named 27 players for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers — with matches against Australia and Indonesia scheduled for June.

One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of Kaishu Sano from FSV Mainz 05, who makes his return to the Samurai Blue after nearly a year of absence following a legal case in July 2024, from which he was cleared of all charges in August.

Japan’s fixtures:

  • vs Australia — Perth Stadium, June 5, 2025
  • vs Indonesia — Suita City Football Stadium, June 10, 2025

This marks Sano’s first national team call-up since the incident, and highlights a fresh start for the 23-year-old midfielder in the international scene.
