Julian Alvarez reportedly moving to Barcelona

Julian Alvarez is reportedly close to joining Barcelona following a disappointing season with Atletico Madrid. The Argentine striker joined Los Rojiblancos from Manchester City last summer.

Despite an impressive tally of 17 goals in 37 La Liga appearances — Atletico Madrid only managed to finish third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid. Diego Simeone’s team also failed to achieve success in other competitions.

Los Rojiblancos experienced disappointing results across various tournaments:

• Eliminated in Champions League round of 16
• Stopped in Copa del Rey semifinals
• Failed to advance from 2025 Club World Cup group stage

Atletico Madrid has now gone nearly four years without a trophy since their last triumph in the 2020-2021 season.
