Josko Gvardiol becomes world’s most expensive defender according to CIES

According to the latest study from CIES Football Observatory, Josko Gvardiol now holds the status as the world’s most expensive defender with a valuation of 93.7 million euros.

The Croatian defender has shown significant development since joining Manchester City — appearing in 96 matches and contributing 11 goals for The Citizens.

Though currently shining, Gvardiol once experienced a challenging moment against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup semifinals — failing to anticipate Lionel Messi’s movement that led to a goal.
