Josh Berry Explains Collision Incident with Carson Hocevar at Sonoma

During the NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway, Josh Berry was involved in an incident with Carson Hocevar at Turn 1 — resulting in car number 77 spinning out and Berry finishing 13th while Hocevar dropped to 32nd position.

Berry later explained at Dover that the incident was purely unintentional.

“I was trying to time it to get alongside Carson and follow car 45, but was too fast to the top of the hill, got too far left and ran into Carson knocking him off the track,” Berry explained.

Berry attempted to contact Hocevar by phone and text message on Monday after the race, but received no response. He only managed to speak with Luke Lambert — crew chief of car #77 to convey his apologies.

Hocevar himself decided not to respond to Berry’s apology — not out of anger, but because he believes Monday phone call apologies don’t resolve anything.
