Jos Verstappen achieved a double victory for his family by winning the Masters class at the Rally Sierra Morena ERC, coinciding with his son Max Verstappen‘s triumph at the Japanese Grand Prix in Formula 1.

The 53-year-old driver was unable to watch the final 14 laps of his son’s race as he had to begin his rally stages. The news of Max Verstappen‘s victory was delivered by the ERC TV crew after the completion of stage seven.

“We were watching it just before the stage, but I couldn’t watch the last 14 laps. This win was good, but Max’s win is more important,” said Jos Verstappen.

Alongside his navigator Renaud Jamoul, Jos Verstappen finished 13th overall, behind event winner Nikolay Gryazin. In his ERC debut, he led Andras Hadik by 2 minutes and 31.2 seconds to claim the Masters class victory for drivers over 50 years old.

  • Need to improve rally notes comprehension
  • Focus on gaining experience in first year
  • Hope to become more competitive in second year
  • Ready for gravel rally challenges

Jos Verstappen‘s next challenge awaits at the gravel rally in Hungary from May 9-11, a different terrain from the asphalt of Sierra Morena.
