Jorge Mas: MLS to align calendar with FIFA

Jorge Mas, Inter Miami co-owner, states that Major League Soccer (MLS) plans to align its competition schedule with the international soccer calendar — a change that will be discussed in this summer’s meetings.

Currently, MLS runs from February to November — different from major world leagues that play from fall to spring. This difference causes transfer window misalignment that limits MLS clubs in player transfer activities.

“I fully expect that in the summer meeting we will decide to move a path forward to align with the FIFA calendar, which I think brings our league to a significant level of disadvantage today,” Mas told ESPN.

This change also aims to strengthen MLS teams’ squad depth. Mas emphasizes the importance of roster flexibility to compete with top world clubs.

Inter Miami will face tough challenges in the 2025 Club World Cup with the following match schedule:

  • Al Ahly (Egypt)
  • FC Porto (Portugal)
  • Palmeiras (Brazil)

The competition will begin at Hard Rock Stadium next June 14 when Inter Miami faces Al Ahly.
