Jorge Martin and Aprilia Contract Dispute Draws Criticism from MotoGP Observer

Carlo Pernat, a former MotoGP team manager who actively follows paddock developments, criticizes the contract dispute between Jorge Martin and Aprilia — a situation he believes should not have emerged.

Controversy arose after Albert Valera, Martin’s manager, stated his rider could be free from contract for the 2026 season. However, Aprilia insists on retaining the Spanish rider according to the agreed two-season contract duration.

Pernat expresses surprise at Jorge Martin’s desire to leave Aprilia — considering the Madrid-born rider has only raced once this season. Martin has been absent due to injuries since pre-season testing in Sepang, and his comeback at Qatar MotoGP ended with an accident that worsened his condition.

“It’s very strange to see Martin insisting on leaving his new team, especially after what happened with Ducati last year,” says Pernat.
