Jonny Evans retires and accepts new position at Manchester United

Jonny Evans officially ends his 20-year football career — he is immediately appointed as head of loans and pathway development at Manchester United.

The 37-year-old defender started his career in United’s academy before making his first team debut in 2007 — then left the club in 2015 to join West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, before returning to Old Trafford last year.

“I announce my retirement not with sadness, but with pride, gratitude and excitement for the new chapter ahead,” states Evans who is currently completing his UEFA A coaching license.

In his new role, Evans will help prepare young players for their step up to the first team.

“I’m eager to work with the next generation of talent and support them in reaching their full potential. I want to help develop the pathway to the first team and continue the legacy of young players thriving at Manchester United,” he adds.
