Jonathan Wheatley supports Sergio Perez’s Formula 1 return

According to F1.com, former Red Bull sporting director and current Sauber team principal — Jonathan Wheatley has expressed full support for Sergio Perez to return to Formula 1.

After his Red Bull contract ended and was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda — Perez took time to reflect on his career and explore new F1 opportunities.

“I feel like I’m in a privileged position with my career, knowing that I’ve always maximised all my opportunities,” stated Perez.

Wheatley praised Perez’s personality and dedication during their time together at Red Bull:

  • Natural pace and racing ability
  • Pushed team for improvement
  • Full focus on performance

“I really enjoyed working with Checo. He’s a great personality and great attitude to life,” said Wheatley.

Currently, Perez is in discussions with Cadillac and reportedly Alpine — Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed they are considering several drivers including Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.
