Jonathan Rodriguez out for season after knee surgery

According to Portland Timbers’ announcement, striker Jonathan Rodríguez has undergone cartilage restoration surgery on his right knee — forcing him to miss the remainder of this season.

The Uruguayan’s last appearance was about two months ago in a U.S. Open Cup match against San Jose Earthquakes. In the 2025 season, his performance was limited with just one goal and one assist from six appearances as a substitute.

“Jonathan is an extremely important player for us, and his absence is significant,” stated Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy. “This has been a challenging period in his career, but he is an outstanding professional and our club will do everything to support him with his recovery.”

Before joining the Timbers, the 32-year-old striker played in Mexico’s Liga MX — scoring 108 goals in 277 appearances across all competitions. The 2024 season marked his impressive debut with the Timbers, collecting 16 goals and seven assists from 29 matches.
