Jonatan Christie stopped in first round of Japan Open 2025

According to Bolasport.com, Jonatan Christie suffered a defeat in the first round of Japan Open 2025 against home player Kenta Nishimoto — the last Japanese champion of Japan Open 2022.

The match at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium revealed Christie’s subpar performance — losing his best touch on court from the beginning of the game.

In a slow-paced game, the All England, Asian Championship, and Asian Games medalist frequently made unnecessary errors. The situation worsened after the interval — both netting shots and backcourt returns were not working well.

The score remained tight from 2-2 to 8-8, but after falling behind 9-11 at the interval, Christie lost momentum and trailed far behind at 9-19. Nine consecutive points slipped away before Nishimoto ended the match with a straight smash that resulted in game point at 20-10.
