Jonatan Christie Advances to Second Round in Singapore

Jonatan Christie has secured a spot in the second round of the Singapore Open 2025 after defeating Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Indonesian men’s singles player, now competing as an independent athlete, dominated from the start, leading 11-7 at the first game interval.

After the break, Christie — widely known as Jojo — extended his lead to 12-7. Although Nguyen narrowed the gap to 8-12 after a wide return by Christie, the Indonesian maintained his momentum.

Christie pulled away to 14-8, but Nguyen managed to score again, making it 9-14 by capitalizing on his opponent’s error.

This marks Christie’s second career win over Nguyen, with their previous meeting taking place at the Indonesia Masters 2023.
