Joining Barcelona, Rashford’s old comments about Messi go viral again

Marcus Rashford officially dons the Barcelona jersey on loan from Manchester United, as announced by the club on Wednesday (23/7/2025). The English striker will strengthen the Catalan team until June 2026 — with a permanent purchase option worth 30 million euros.

As Rashford joins Camp Nou, his interview from about 7 years ago has resurfaced on social media. In that interview, Rashford addressed the classic debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Although Ronaldo is my idol, I believe Messi deserves to be called the greatest player of all time,” Rashford said in the June 2018 interview.

These comments now receive special attention from Barcelona fans — who see an interesting connection between Rashford’s views and his move to Messi’s former club.
