John Textor worried about Crystal Palace’s FA Cup victory

According to Talksport, American businessman John Textor expressed his concerns following Crystal Palace’s FA Cup triumph — a victory that should have secured Europa League qualification this season.

The issue arises because Textor’s Eagle Football Group owns 43% of Palace while also controlling French club Lyon. UEFA regulations prohibit clubs with more than 30% ownership by the same party from competing in the same European tournament.

“Oh s***, that’s what I thought,” Textor revealed about his reaction after Palace defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the final. “I was very happy, but I felt the gravity of the situation. I was worried on the same day while holding the trophy next to Prince William.”

Currently, Textor is in the process of selling his stake for £190m to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. Meanwhile, Lyon has just successfully overturned their relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial issues — which led to Textor stepping down from the board and his position as club president.

UEFA is expected to announce their decision in the coming days regarding both clubs’ fate in the Europa League.
