John Textor steps back from Lyon management after Ligue 2 relegation

John Textor announces his plan to step back from Lyon’s daily management — this decision comes after the club’s confirmed relegation to Ligue 2 by French football’s financial watchdog (DNCG).

In an interview with TV Globo, the Eagle Football Group owner acknowledged his struggles with French football politics — a factor that contributed to the club’s current situation.

“I’ve been much better on the pitch than managing France. As an American capitalist, I need to adjust to that system,” said Textor.

Despite Lyon’s relegation, the club’s financial position remains stable and has passed UEFA’s financial sustainability review. Textor’s focus will now shift to broader responsibilities at Eagle Football Group — including Botafogo management after selling his 43% stake in Crystal Palace.
