Joan Laporta criticizes Athletic Bilbao over Nico Williams transfer

Joan Laporta, Barcelona president, has launched criticism against Athletic Bilbao — a club deemed too involved in Barcelona’s internal affairs regarding the Nico Williams transfer.

The transfer saga of the 22-year-old player intensified after the revelation of initial agreement between Barcelona and Williams — a six-year contract with 7-8 million euros per season salary.

Athletic Bilbao responded with unusual steps — requesting La Liga to conduct an audit of Barcelona’s finances. The Basque club questions Barcelona’s compliance with salary caps and the ‘1:1 rule’ in their pursuit of Williams.

“They are too concerned with other clubs’ internal kitchen,” said Laporta in response to Athletic Bilbao’s stance.
