Jiménez pays touching tribute to late Jota at Gold Cup

Raúl Jiménez paid an emotional tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota during the Gold Cup match against the United States. The tribute came after Jota and his brother André Silva passed away in a car accident near Zamora, Spain.

The Mexican striker — who played alongside Jota at Wolverhampton Wanderers for two seasons — scored in the 27th minute and immediately displayed a Mexico jersey bearing Jota’s name and number 20. He then sat on the field while showing the jersey to the cameras.

“He was a great teammate who was with me for two years at Wolves and we kept in touch. We shared very beautiful moments,” Jiménez expressed during the pre-match press conference.

The funeral services for Jota and his brother were held in Gondomar, Portugal.
