Jenson Button: Parenting Experience Gives Edge at Le Mans 24 Hours

Jenson Button, Cadillac Jota team driver, shares interesting perspective on sleep management at Le Mans 24 Hours — his parenting experience gives him an advantage over younger drivers.

“A 22-year-old doesn’t have kids, so they don’t know what sleep deprivation is until they get here. For me with two kids, I know what it’s like not sleeping,” Button states.

Le Mans schedule proves challenging — practice runs until midnight on Wednesday and Thursday, plus morning media commitments. The 24-hour race can turn into 36-hour activity from Saturday morning through Sunday night.

Button also reflects on last year’s experience with Hendrick Motorsports driving Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in Garage 56 program. The NASCAR machine surprised many with its competitive performance — even outqualifying GTE cars.

Now with Cadillac, Button aims for victory in Hypercar class — an opportunity he eagerly embraced after previously planning to join Jota’s Porsche 963 program.
