Japan Scores a Beautiful Goal Early in the Second Half, Indonesia Thrashed Without Ball Possession

Japan once again showcased their quality against Indonesia in the final match of the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers at Suita City Stadium, Osaka, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. After leading 3-0 in the first half with goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo, Japan opened the second half with a beautiful goal to further extend their lead.

From the start, Japan dominated the game. Ball possession statistics were heavily one-sided, with Japan controlling up to 83% of the ball early in the second half, while Indonesia could only defend and occasionally attempt counterattacks. The Garuda squad struggled to build attacks due to Japan’s high pressing and disciplined defense.

Two key Indonesian players, Kevin Diks and Yakob Sayuri, had to be substituted in the first half due to injuries, making it even harder for Indonesia to withstand the pressure. Japan kept pushing forward and creating chances, while Indonesia mostly sat back and couldn’t develop their play.

By the middle of the second half, Japan continued to dictate the tempo and added to their lead. Indonesia was truly thrashed, unable to control the ball or create meaningful opportunities. Nevertheless, the Garuda players kept fighting until the final whistle, taking home valuable lessons from facing one of Asia’s strongest teams.
