The third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Asian Zone has completed its eighth matchday — with two teams already securing their place in the tournament.

Japan and Iran became the first Asian representatives to officially book their tickets for the 2026 World Cup, while South Korea — a regular participant in the tournament — will have to wait until June for confirmation.

Indonesia now faces a tough path to direct qualification after their loss to Australia, which dropped them to fourth place in Group C. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia secured a crucial draw against Japan, keeping their hopes alive for a top-two finish.

The battle for the second automatic qualification spot in Group C is now intensifying between:

  • Australia

  • Saudi Arabia

  • Indonesia

With only two matchdays remaining, each game will be crucial in determining which team will join Japan and Iran in securing a direct berth for the 2026 World Cup.
