ATP Halle Open 2025: Defending Champion Jannik Sinner Falls in Second Round

Jakarta – World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner suffered a shock defeat in the second round of the ATP 500 Halle Open 2025, falling to a determined opponent in a surprising three-set turnaround.

After taking the first set 6-3, Sinner appeared on track to extend his strong grass-court form. But the match shifted dramatically as his opponent raised his level, storming back to win 6-3, 6-4 in the final two sets and book a spot in the quarter-finals.

The loss marks Sinner’s earliest exit from a tournament since becoming world No. 1, and ends his bid for back-to-back Halle titles.

“Of course, it’s disappointing,” Sinner said post-match.

“But my opponent played an excellent match, especially in the key moments. I’ll take the lessons and move forward.”

The defeat also comes just weeks after Sinner made history by spending over 53 consecutive weeks at world No. 1, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the grass-court season.

Despite the setback, Sinner remains a top contender heading into Wimbledon 2025, where his recent Grand Slam consistency keeps him among the favorites.
