James Vowles reveals Williams’ detailed changes to improve team performance

Williams team principal James Vowles spoke openly with Sky Sports about various changes being implemented by the team — including modifications to Carlos Sainz’s car and overall team operational improvements.

Regarding the first seven races this season, Vowles explained Sainz’s adaptation process:

“There were several learning elements we went through — from the first street circuit race, using high downforce wings, to low downforce configuration. We’re now past that learning phase.”

The team has made technical adjustments to improve Carlos Sainz’s comfort — including a new seat providing better visual positioning and optimal weight distribution. Vowles also highlighted personal connections being built, such as shared tennis sessions helping develop team chemistry.

Regarding communication issues with Alex Albon at Montreal GP, Vowles acknowledged the need for improvements in information delivery to drivers. The team’s focus for the next 13 races is enhancing unit-wide coordination and cooperation.
