James Vowles and Charles Leclerc disagree on F1 2026 regulations

Williams team principal James Vowles has expressed a contrasting view to Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc regarding the 2026 Formula 1 regulations — a change that will bring major overhaul to aerodynamic design and power units.

The new regulations will implement a 50-50 power split between electric and internal combustion engines — along with changes to size, weight, and downforce levels to improve racing quality.

“It’s not the most enjoyable race car I’ve driven so far,” said Leclerc after trying the simulator at Ferrari factory. “I think next year’s regulations will be less enjoyable for drivers.”

However, Vowles remains optimistic about the upcoming changes. “It’s like anything else — we have to change driving style to adapt to these cars,” he explained. “I actually don’t think the formula for next year is bad at all.”

Vowles emphasized that there are still technical details to be resolved, such as straight-line mode management in wet conditions — but he’s confident all challenges will be addressed over time.
