Jakarta Governor explains reasons for padel sport taxation

Pramono Anung Wibowo, Jakarta Governor, emphasizes that the taxation of padel sport is not a Jakarta Provincial Government initiative — but rather an implementation of existing regulations.

“All sports entertainment is subject to tax. There are 21 sports, including tennis, swimming, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and padel,” Pramono explained during a meeting in East Jakarta.

Interestingly, golf receives an exemption — as it is already subject to 11 percent VAT. “Golf already has VAT, so it cannot be double-taxed. The VAT for golf is 11 percent,” stated Pramono.

The Governor considers entertainment tax for commercial sports like padel a reasonable policy — given that the majority of users come from groups who can afford facility rental fees. Jakarta Provincial Government has set a 10 percent tax rate for padel sport facilities.
