Italy Advances to Euro 2025 Semifinals After 28-Year Wait

The Italy women’s national team — led by coach Andrea Soncin — has reached the European Championship semifinals for the first time in 28 years following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Norway in Geneva.

Cristiana Girelli emerged as the match hero by scoring twice — including the decisive 90th-minute goal that propelled Italy into the Euro 2025 final four.

“This is something that makes me and us totally proud,” Soncin told RAI. “We must give credit to those who were there in previous years — who have given a boost to the movement.”

“This is not just a victory for us, but it truly belongs to all of Italian women’s football,” said Girelli, who has now scored 61 goals for the national team. “Being among the top four in Europe is a dream come true.”

Italy will face the winner between England and Sweden in the semifinals — marking their best achievement since the 2019 World Cup.
