Introduction to padel: A popular fusion of tennis and squash

Padel — a unique combination of tennis and squash — is experiencing a surge in popularity across Indonesia. This sport stands out with characteristics that distinguish it from other racket sports.

The padel court features distinctive elements — surrounded by glass walls and wire mesh measuring 10×20 meters. A net installed in the middle of the court serves as a boundary between playing areas, similar to tennis court concept.

Padel game format uses doubles system — two players against two players. Before the match begins, the team to perform first service is determined through a draw.

Service rules in padel have their own uniqueness:

  • Ball must bounce behind baseline
  • Service stroke performed underhand
  • Ball height must not exceed player’s waist
  • Service direction must be diagonal to opponent’s service box
