Inter Milan recorded a crucial 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Allianz Arena.

Lautaro Martinez put Inter ahead in the 38th minute — after Harry Kane had earlier hit the post in what could have given Bayern the lead.

Thomas Müller managed to equalize for Bayern, but Davide Frattesi emerged as Inter’s hero with his 88th-minute winner — ending Bayern’s four-year unbeaten home record in the competition.

“We know it’s only halftime, the second leg will be at San Siro. Bayern are a very strong side, but Inter went toe-to-toe with them in determination, courage and aggression,” said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

Inter’s solid defense — which has conceded just three goals in 11 Champions League matches this season — once again proved its quality against Bayern’s attacks. The return leg will be played next week at San Siro, with the aggregate winner facing either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals.
