Inter Miami advances to Club World Cup knockout stage, Messi remains disappointed

Lionel Messi expresses his disappointment despite Inter Miami making history at the 2025 Club World Cup — becoming the first Major League Soccer (MLS) club to advance to the knockout stage.

The Herons secured their ticket to the next round after drawing 2-2 against Palmeiras in their final Group A match on Tuesday (24/6/2025) — a result sufficient to secure the group’s runner-up position.

“We should have won this match as we were two goals ahead,” Messi wrote on his personal Instagram account.

Inter Miami remained undefeated in the group stage with one victory and two draws. In their final match, Gerardo Martino’s team took the lead through goals from Tadeo Allende in the 16th minute and Luis Suarez in the 65th minute.
