Innovatio Capital Becomes First US Majority Owner in Liga MX

US sports investment firm Innovatio Capital has made history in Liga MX after completing the acquisition of Querétaro FC from Jorge Alberto Hank.

Marc Spiegel, chairman of Innovatio Capital — a company that uses technology to identify investment opportunities in undervalued markets — expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition.

“We identified Liga MX as a competition we wanted to invest in a long time ago, and when the opportunity came up to visit Queretaro, we knew that this was where we wanted to be,” said Spiegel.

The acquisition coincides with the club’s 75th anniversary celebration, with new management including Chris Spooner as CFO and Ed Malyon heading sports and data strategy.

Investment interest in Liga MX continues to grow — Apollo Global is in advanced negotiations for over $1 billion investment, while Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney along with Eva Longoria have invested in club Necaxa.

Querétaro will play their first match under new ownership against Club Tijuana, followed by an away trip to Necaxa, before hosting Pumas at La Corregidora stadium.
