Infantino announces weather solution for 2026 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced plans to use roofed stadiums for the 2026 World Cup — a measure taken following complaints about extreme weather during the Club World Cup in the United States.

Concerns arose after players faced temperatures reaching 95.5°F in the semifinal match at MetLife Stadium — conditions that forced several games to be postponed due to excessive heat.

“Every criticism we receive is a source for us to study and analyze what we can do better,” said Infantino during a press conference in New York.

Roofed stadiums in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Vancouver — equipped with air conditioning systems — will provide the solution for weather issues in the upcoming tournament.

  • Use of roofed stadiums for daytime matches
  • Implementation of stricter cooling breaks
  • Utilization of air conditioning systems

Infantino also confirmed President Trump’s attendance at Sunday’s Club World Cup final — demonstrating important support from one of the 2026 World Cup host nations.
