IndyCar Toronto 2025: A Race Full of Drama and Crashes

The Exhibition Place Circuit in Toronto — a 1.786-mile street track — witnessed a dramatic and incident-filled IndyCar race.

Santino Ferrucci was the first victim of the chaos, crashing into the wall at Turn 7 during the warm-up session.

The situation spiraled further once the race began. Scott McLaughlin lost a wheel after an early pit stop, while Christian Rasmussen and Alexander Rossi were involved in a chain-reaction crash. Rossi, the 2016 Indianapolis 500 champion, suffered significant damage to his car after making contact with the barrier.

“I didn’t even lose grip — I just ran a bit wide and destroyed the rear of the car,” said Rossi following the incident.

The crashes didn’t stop there. A heavy collision between Jacob Abel and Josef Newgarden saw Abel’s car land on top of Newgarden’s.

Amid the chaos, it was Pato O’Ward who emerged victorious, winning the race with a composed drive. Rinus VeeKay and Kyffin Simpson completed the podium, capitalizing on a solid two-stop strategy.

A total of five drivers were forced to retire early, while only 19 of the 27 starters managed to finish the race on the lead lap — highlighting the high attrition rate and intensity of the race.
