Indra Sjafri discusses new foreign player rules for next Liga 1 season

According to BolaSport.com, Indra Sjafri as Acting Technical Director of PSSI has provided feedback regarding foreign player and U-23 regulations for Liga 1 season 2025-2026.

PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has established new rules — clubs are permitted to register 11 foreign players with a limit of only eight allowed to play in matches.

The regulations also require each Liga 1 club to:

• Register five U-23 players
• Field one U-23 player as a starter
• Provide minimum 45 minutes playing time for U-23 players

Indonesia U-23 National Team coach, Gerald Vanenburg expressed his disagreement with these regulations.

“I think it’s like a joke. Really, I think it’s a joke,” stated Vanenburg when met at Madya Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta.
